Default New to Jeeps/off-roading, few questions...

1. Heard that with the XJ unibody frame, they are prone to cracking the windshields with lifts... True or false, and how high does it take to do so, if true?

2. Chrysler 8.25" rear, is it even worth doing anything to?

3. Where is the best place to find local jeep clubs?

Thanks for reading and helping a "noob." ;-)

unibody is true. when you flex the rig overtime you could crack a windshield. I did it once in 10 years or so. it has nothing to do with the amount of lift you have.

what year 8.25? some come with 27spline and some came in a 29spline. the 27 is crap and the 29 is ok

3. Where is the best place to find local jeep clubs?

where you located?

i recently purchased a 1992 Cherokee Laredo. Did a little bit of research to determine i have the Chrysler 8.25" rear. The jeep is stock, so I think it is safe to say it is a '92 8.25". I am in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

You have the 27 spline 8.25, It is better than an D35 but not as strong ans either the D44 or 8.25 with 29 spline (1997+). That said the 27 spline is still strong enough for the average DD/Trail rig running 33" tire with a locker. If you want bigger tires than that, upgrade it to 29 spline axels.

8.25 housing is wicked strong, gears are bigger too. D35 housing is like a wet noodle and has a tiny ring gear. 27 spline 8.25's are easy to upgrade to a 29, all you need are the 29 spline side gears and axleshafts.

I dont know the specs but I have seen numerous 27spline and 29spline 8.25 bend housings, spit ring gears, and snap shafts just like a d35. I personally are not a fan of them.

whats bold ^ is true though
