Hi folks,

Im looking to pick up a new Cherokee this week but I have some doubts. I haven't seen the car I'm purchasing in person and it's the first time I buy a car from up north and I'm worried about rust. I got even more worried after talking to the salesperson. Lol! She didn't exactly inspire confidence in me.
The XJ looks really clean, it's low mileage, and it's a 2 owner car.

Here are some pics under the hood and of the undercarriage. Do any of you guys with experience buying cars up north see anything I should be worried about?

The driveshaft looks pretty rusty

Looks pretty clean underneath, I wouldn't worry about the driveshaft rust, they all do that around here, if it's a 00 or 01 model be aware that they are known to have issues with the head cracking.

Thank You. It's a 99 w 90,000 miles.
What a relief. I'm from Florida. We don't see many cars with rust down here.

Councidently my only expirience seeing rust damage is from hunting in Cadiz, OH.
Thanks for the advice

Yep... What he said, Looks pretty clean to me too. Actually real clean for a northern car. Almost as clean as a desert car.

Thanks. I got paranoid after I spoke with the salesperson. I think it was her 3 pack a day voice.
It looked to me like there was overspray on the left by the rocker panel, then I thought it may have been sprayed with bedliner to cover stuff up. I went bonkers for a minute there.

See those trapezoidal shape drains along where the body panels meet with the floor pan? Those would be the first thing to start rotting.

I'd have to fly to Maryland. I may do that but I don't want to waste the money if it's no good.
I'll strangle the dealer.

I appreciate the input. The people on that other forum are killing me but a lot are pointing out things that aren't pertinent.

me personally, i would never buy an older vehicle like this from an auction that is states away withiut even seeing it. Any vehicle for that matter. To many problems that could be wrong. Especially with xjs. Plus, i think that xj is going to bring a pretty penny because it is a low milage 99. Thats a big risk to take without actually driving it, let alone even seeing it.

thats just my 2 cents though.

You do realize since this is an auction and because it is a '99 with 90k on her that you are probably talking at least 10K to purchase. Somebody told me about this site:

https://bringatrailer.com/

Jeeps show up from time to time. I think this is nuts but here is an example:

I plan on checking it out . I don't want to waste a flight though.
The car ran threw Manheim. It's very reputable. Dealers only.
