Default Need buying advice! Please help.

Hello so I am a first time Cherokee buyer, very excited to own my first xj! There’s one I am looking at for $6800. He’s saying it has rebuilt transmission, and has a new motor with only 4K miles on it. It has a lift kit and good tires and he says there is no rust at all (in Arizona). Is that a decent price? I know it’s higher than most but is it worth it for the new motor?

I think it’s more fun to buy stock and build it how you want to.

Does the motor come with a warranty that transfers to you? if not, then 100% no.

I agree buying stock and then building is more fun, but it's getting harder and harder to do. I would get a pre-purchase inspection for sure. I'm in AZ, Mesa.

thanks for the reply, I asked about the warranty. How does one go about getting a pre purchase inspection? You meaning just get a mechanic to look at at? Sorry pretty big newbie here. I’m also in Mesa!

Yeah, just call around to a few shops that know older cars pretty well, they'll charge you for an hour of labor or so (though I've had a few charge me nothing). and just schedule a time to take it over. I don't know where in mesa you are, or where the car is, but if you need a mechanic, Howard's garage: 31 E Crescent Ave, Mesa, AZ 85210 +14808987277 is one I've taken my jeep to before and they know jeeps pretty well, one of the mechanics who works(ed) there ( at least 4 years ago he did) owned like 3 or 4 XJ's himself. That might not be reasonable for the seller if they live far out, so find a mechanic near them you can take the jeep to.

appreciate it, I’ll check it out. Update- the seller messaged me back saying the new motor has a 5 year unlimited mile warranty on it. Thoughts?

Have you seen the Jeep in person? The paperwork in person?

I wouldn't pay 1/2 that for a 2000 model.

00,01 have 0331 head so if he replaced the engine hopefully he addressed that issue.
