Default Looking into buying my first cherokee need help?!

I am looking at a 1997 jeep cherokee country model it has around 99k miles on it super clean a sunroof with a little visible rust on the cab corners under the back doors in the pictures. They are asking for 4,000 cash can't get him down any lower. Is this a good deal? Please let me know soon thank you all! New to this site.

Yeah that might be worth every penny and more.
If it is that clean.
Some of the asking prices I see for XJ's are kinda nuts lately.
And if you want to see some really outrageous prices check here:

I just noticed in the pictures there is a decent amount of rust in the cab corners under the back doors. Is that something I should be concerned with at that price point. Other than that it looks great.

So not that clean. But still has only 99K.
Rockers aren't a major deal.
Oh and it has Grand Cherokee wheels.
While I never really cared for them I gotta admit the gold trim
in them on a red XJ looks nice.
Have a red XJ in my town that runs the same set up.
So thinking not so much now.
I can't see myself paying $4K for it.

very typical for rust in that area, especially if it has a sunroof. the drain tubes run down the B pillars and drains just short of the rockers. easy fix tho, and pretty cheap for replacement rockers.
but you will wanna check the floors, if there's that much rust on the rockers. maybe that will help with further negotiations.

How much does it usually cost to replace the rockers and is it something I could do myself im somewhat mechanically capable.

This is also in iowa so rust is usually an issue due to salty winters

Rockers them selves are not expensive but require welding to be put on.
Now if you could weld then........
Pay somebody to do it?
No idea how much.
Also since it is not as clean as you thought betting there is other rust.
Sometimes under the rear passenger side fender flare you will find some.
Completely covered by the fender flare though so......
You have to go look at it check the floors and stuff.
Am leaning towards no on $4K but then we come back to the 99K for mileage.
Tough call but still thinking no.

Replacing a rusted fender or hood is cheap and easy. Fixing rust issues that require welding can get very expensive if you can't do the work yourself. I wouldn't even entertain the idea of making an offer until I looked at it in person.

If it has easily visible rust there is probably much more you cannot see..................

meh, it's only two hours. what if it's the right jeep?

you can get some adhesive that would work to "glue" the new rockers over top of the old ones. but cutting and welding is a better idea. you can just cut the bad section and replace with a piece of the new rocker so you don't have to do the whole thing.

replacement rockers are pretty cheap. less than 100 per side. you should be able to get them from somewhere like rock auto or the like. up here we use cross canada parts.

I'll probably go check it out. Thats the only issue I can see from the pictures and literally every one I've found near me has that but worse. I guess its worth looking at..
