This thread is the thread to read before modding your XJ. Learn from the mistakes of others. So many AAL regrets, lol. And the expensive CAI's - I have one, but I bought mine cheap off ebay for a shamefully low bid.
From reading all the regrets I guess the moral of the story is: Patience! Wait until you have the money to buy good quality parts. Or wait for them to show up on sale! Never cheap out because you can't wait.
My regrets: 1) not doing more research before modding. I went from a 2" budget boost, to 3" to 5.5" I went thru so many different wheel/tire combinations that I could open my own tire shop! And the money lost in wheeling & dealing ... good lord. 2) Then I had my D35 swapped for an 8.25 which about 1.5 years later I paid to have rebuilt & geared. Then I found out that the only selectable locker available for the 8.25 is ARB. I have my heart set on an OX so 2 more years later I had an 8.8 swapped in. Sold the 8.25 for a decent amount, but I still took a big loss.
Now I'm waiting until I can afford RCV axles for the D30 instead of some other costly mistake.

I have 2 first chopping a 4-door. 2-doors look so much better and in my 4-door after relocating the tank and the rad then adding a swing out tire carrier I had no room. Second exo cage. I thought it looked so good and didn't take long for that to ware off. Sold it unfinished.

blocks... like seriously, whoever invented them needs a swift hit, in the face... with a chair.
roof rack, like sure they look cool and all, but seriously. i lost 2mpgs, and gained more wait on the top.
and 33x10.5s, man up and get 33x12.5s or just get 35s.

I agree with the roof rack. I thought mine looked pretty cool but I literally never used it except at the drive in. And that sob was heavy because I used .120 wall. Also, hood vents. I noticed zero temp difference, at least according to the factory gauge that was 20 years old. Once again, thought it looked good but didn't do much. That's a good one for a day you have nothing better to do and just want to add to the look of your rig.

I regret not saving money and doing it the way I wanted in the first place. Went from 2" bb to 3" pro comp to 4.5" mixed part lift. Also had stock tires, 30's, 31's and now 32's. I wish I had that money again to go with complete 4.5" lift, sye and 33's w/ gears to match.
Another is the Hypertech programmer. It was nice when I had it but one little short while programming the computer one day fried my computer and had to spend $300 for a refurbished one cause it was impossible to find one in the jy. Was also w/o the heep for a week waiting on shipping and such.
I like having the look of hood vents, but didn't have any temp change. Only made the hood a little less hot so I could actually touch and lift in the summer.

Knowing full well that I was regearing to 4.56, I needed tires one day, and with $ burning a hole in my pocket, I bought some 32's. New.
That might be fine you think, but I installed those gears within 2 weeks and I haven't been past 65mph since. Oh, I'll just sell these and get 35's...work is slow, and my plans to go up an inch ( to squeeze in the 35's) has been put off in order to pay bills.
Moral of my rant is make a plan and stick to it. And don't walk around with 1000 bucks in your pocket

TheBlackSmith-"Short arms over 3.5'' of lift (even tho they are adjustable, they are counter productive at 4.5'' of lift)
so far thats the only mod I'm not happy with. "
Can u explain what this means? I'm new to lifting, just did a 5" on my XJ. I have stock upper and lower control arms. Are u saying when I upgrade to aftermarket adjustable, to NOT buy short arms? Someone please help me understand this? I'm a newbie.
