Just had my Cherokee painted. The color is the same color as my 2014 Ram. Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat. Now to get new wheels and tires. Had a custom interior done on the seats and new carpet throughout. It's getting there. 165,000 miles and there is not one bump or door ding in it now. It will go back next week to do the mirrors, door handles and roof rack.

Thank you. I wish I could knock some of the gloss off the black. I wanted it with a touch of gloss and it looks to much to me. I have had a lot of fun doing the suspension and lots of other work. I learned a lot and got good help from the tech forum. It is running and riding really nice now. Glad it was rust free.
Any tips on the gloss?

Wow love your XJ! Super Clean! If you don't like too much gloss you could use a satin finish black maybe? Seriously though that engine bay is immaculate! Where did you get the front PCV hose to the air box? I like it!

3K That is exterior paint only. No door jams, engine bay or under hood etc. If you are going to do all that, 6-9K is probably in the ball park depending on other factors. My new exterior color is pretty close to the original color so I have very little contrast. With your orange idea, like your motor, you need to consider your current color contrasting against your orange if you go just body paint. I researched Factory paint jobs and Show quality paint jobs etc. I interviewed several good body shops and my guy had all the right answers and process and passed the interview. As you know, prep is very labor intensive therefore expensive. Which is why Macco is so inexpensive. Virtually no prep (sign the over spray disclaimer) and probably one coat of primer, paint and clear.
I got a nice discount for cash. I negotiated that AFTER completion as a stack of 20's creates salivation. Start to finish was about a month. Another quality guy and shop quoted 3K and a month also. I had to learn all the right questions and correct answers before I made my selection and visited the shop about every 3-4 days so they knew I was on top of it. Didn't bother them just looked. They wet sanded and worked the number of coats of primer paint and clear to create a very good quality Factory type paint job. Forget the dealerships and custom painters unless you have money to throw away. Best of luck and please post pics of your outcome.
