Looks like there will be a HP swap very soon, today i thought of asking my brother who has a 99 xj if we could swap if he had a hp seeing as how he doesn't wheel much other than light fields. I looked at it and he does so its time to swap baby!

Good choice as the same amount of labor is required for the gear/locker combo as it is for one.
Before choosing the gear you need to decide what size tire you plan on running as that's what determines the proper gear you choose.
I guess you have the Chy 8.25 rear differential if so its a 29 spline one in a 2000, your good to so just swap gears/locker. If by a small chance you might have the "D TurdyFive" then your looking at another swap its a real POS. But the Chy 8.25's from a 97-01 are fairly cheap and very strong a direct bolt-in except for the U-Bolts sizes.

Ontop of the ground clearance issue, A HPd30 axle will have the gears pull together while going forward while the low pinion D30 will pull apart. This makes the contact area greater in the HP and makes them significantly stronger.
They are super easy to find and are dirt cheap. You can even get them stock with 4.10s way cheaper than buying gears and paying to have it regeared. Check out CL part outs, Junk yards etc. We just threw a rubicon Dana 44 in my grandfathers TJ. After scouring here for a XJ HP30 with 4.10s to match, we just ended up ordering one from an online junkyard. Ended up being about 320$ shipped from Utah to Montana with low miles and 4.10s already ready to go. Was way cheaper than buying a set of gears and getting them installed in the crappy LP the TJS come with and it came with JKS quick discos and a aftermarket cover haha.
I have destroyed two HPd30s with 4.10s in mine... Always have been able to locate one for cheap with 4.10s.

With 33's you really need a 4.56 gear if you go with a 4.10 it will be like going from a stock gear you have now (3.55 I guess) to a set of 3.08's.
4.56's with the 33's will equal your stock gear/tire combo now, you may want to rethink the gears. Its not that great on or off road with that gear/tire combo. I have had zero issues with my stock HPD30 locked with 4.56's mostly off road use.
