Default Liberty control arm recall

So I was at the home of a Chrysler mechanic. He had a scrap pile of dozens of rear lower KJ control arms. He said they recalled them as they may rust.

Always interested in cheap parts He gave me a set. They look strong as hell. Solid tube but are 17 3/8 long. They look like a great fit for a Jeep with a lift of 6" or more. It's a shame they are not 16".
Any one use these with a 4" lift to push the axle forward? ( with longer uppers)
I thought I could cut the flat tab that was used for the swar bar, cut it in half and re-weld and then re weld the sway bar plate for strength.

Yes.
The rest of the under belly is rusty so it will be a good home.

But what's odd is the amount of grief many Xj owners give KJ owners how cheesy they are. Yet they recall a control arm that maybe the strongest link on it.

I had a great selection to choose from. I picked up a set with little rust. If anything the price was right to work with.

i suppose using a recalled part just scares me a bit. There's a reason for the recall....

I'm old and scare easily.

Pictured are KJ rear lower with odd sway bar tab and bolts. (2005)
Stock front lower XJ control arms (1997)

The KJ control arms do have some rust. It does however have a hole in the control arm. Maybe it rust from the inside out and was not coated correctly causing a recall.
