Default LED Taillights

So I'm going to be doing the LED taillight conversion and I was wondering two things.

How's the process of wiring the LEDs up? Am I replacing the stock bulb wires? Do the LEDs plug into the bulb sockets?

I'm also getting the Rusty's taillight box. I see it accepts pretty much any 4'' lights. Can I use a pair that don't have the rubber ring on the outside?

Here's what I did: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/em...5/#post1954125

If you need a wiring diagram I have one I can post.

Edit: might as well just post it up.

Oh OK. I take it it was pretty easy? I'm not the best with electrical and wires and whatnot, but I have a general understanding of it.

Also, you're in IL, is a side marker mandatory? I posted the Rusty's link, those don't appear to have them.

Yes, it was pretty easy to do. Side markers or a reflector are mandatory.

Yeah the side marker/reflector is mandatory all newer cars and trucks have them built in the tail lights now.

I need to add a reverse light, since I was going to buy a red and an amber light for the two current holes on the housing. I can easily wire up like a 2'' reverse and another 2'' sidemarker, right?

Will something like this work? It'd solve my issue with cutting another hole for a small reverse light.

Title says 4'', but the description says the diameter is 5.75. I'd have to install it on the outside of the housing, will I run into any issues you think?

Why not put reverse lights in the rear bumper or under it?Or read your states laws see if says you have to have amber turn signals or not.

I have a tube bumper at the moment, so that wouldn't be for a while. I posted in the state thread for my state and I don't need an amber light. I ordered two 4'' red lights, two 4'' reverse lights, and two 2'' red side markers.

Look what came today! Didn't know they'd be power coated. I almost went out and bought paint. Lights are on their way.

So the lights came today. The rubber grommets are a PITA to get in. It looks like it's bigger than the hole, but I guess it's supposed to be a tight fit. I got them in, but now can't get the lights in.. I don't want to put too much pressure on and crack the lights.

Any tips?

Do the lights fit snugly in the grommets when they're not installed? Or a little loose? Maybe wrong grommet or you could grind a wee bit away of the metal. I'd make absolutely sure first though.

So I made the mistake of buying 4'' lights for a 4'' hole, without compensating the grommet.

Are these too big for this or will I have to modify them to fit

It's a bit hard to tell, but the light itself will fit in the hole, so I'm thinking of maybe siliconing it in or something. Or trimming the grommet and making that work.
