is it possible to install an instrument cluster from a 97+ Cherokee into a 92 Cherokee? any issues in doing so?

Not an easy swap. Sensors on motor are different and wiring harness. As well as the ecu would need to be changed

Not to mention it won't fit in the dash without copious amounts of duct tape more than likely. The biggest pain would be the fuel sender/pump assembly. The bigger question is why would you want to do this? It will be way more work than it would be worth unless you have tons of time to kill.

thanks guys, you clearly talked me out of the swap. my reason is I like the look of the newer clusters. are there any decent aftermarket ones out there you could recommend?
