Default How to clean your engine...

Hey guys, New to the jeep and be your own mechanic world and have so far replaced shocks and the whole steering system on my 88 cherokee. I'm looking to clean the engine which has years of oil all over it from many leaks. Whats the best/cheapest way to do this? also how hard is it to replace common seals that would be leaking oil? Thanks

Well this isnt the answer your looking for but if you just want to clean up those oil spots and grease buildup just get a product like Gunk or pb. They disengrate all buildups and stuff but make sure you rinse off afterwards! Thats what ido and it cleans it but not sure if you wanted like a more advance do and dont answrr

you used a HD ENGINE degreaser? or regular degreaser? Combine maybe with a dish washing brush, the ones that are stiff but not metal or that can tear a wire if you accidently swipe it... Or actually go to one of those wah your car yourself and use their pressure washer lol jk sorta

Lots of products available. Purple Power, Gunk, Simple Green, Pink Stuff, etc. The list goes on and on really. Just read the directions and FOLLOW THEM! Purple Power is SERIOUS stuff and not recommended on a lot of stuff (paint included) and you almost always have to cut it. Depending on what youre doing, sometimes a lot. I use it on my motor when I need it, and I cut it 1:20 (1 part PP to 20 parts water) and it still messes with the paint on the under side of the hood. Spay it on with a mist bottle, let it sit 10 seconds and spray it off with the hose. Unless your motor is REALLY bad, this will clean it fine. If its really bad, youll need some elbow grease too.

Spray simple green all on the engine, and let it soak for 10 minutes. Then spray it off real good with a pressure washer. I did it when i first bought my jeep and the engine came out REALLY clean.
