Government recall
I will use my first post to ask this question:
U.S. government request the recall of some 2.5 million jeep vehicles for possible fuel tank issues (xj included). Chrysler responded w/ a resounding FO.
Question, other than those tanks that you guys drug off in huge rock gardens, how many have experienced fuel tank leaks or any fuel tank issues for that matter?
Just asking

The tank in my 93 works fine. I've never dragged it over rocks or anything but I've also never had an issue with it aside from my gas gauge reading a little off on occasion

X2. the gauge in my 92, when full, usually reads anywhere from half a tank to 3/4 of a tank, but that's my only issue with it.
On a side note, I recently discovered it reads closer to full with premium ethanol free.

For me if I let it go til the gas pump kicks off it will read just over full, depending which way I turn the needle moves with it but levels out again pretty quick

Tank seems fine in my '98. It's the sending unit on my pump assembly that's the problem. My gauge goes all over the place. As for this recall, I can't blame Chrysler for denying the recall request...It's basically not possible, or practical to re-engineer vehicles from the 90's completely to relocate the fuel tank. Doesn't make much sense in any regard.

I've read about how it basically comes down to the tank being in a bad spot for collision.
Before I lifted my XJ I got rear ended by a little car. Only damage I got was a dent in the tank.
