Default good deal?

They will take $4000 out the door for this. Needs something fixed in the 4x4 system, its pretty rough when engaged. Probably ought to get new tires too. Also, I would want to swap the head... There is ZERO rust anywhere which is why I like it.

CEL, airbag light and worn out rear springs. That's about twice what I'd pay for it especially if the t-case is shot.

If the 4x4 is never used it can be rough to engage it,The airbag light and check engine light on in the one picture would make me run away from it as fast as i can.I know you want a rust free one but why not find a nice one cheap because it has some rust and get the rust fixed. The rockers and floor pans are remade,And any good body shop can replace them for you.

I don't think the airbag light and check engine light are on during operation. I didn't notice them while test driving. They flash on when you insert the key without turning on the car right? Also, how can you tell the rear leaf springs are bad?

Correct. However, in that photo the Jeep is running...RPM, Oil Pressure....

If the CEL and Airbag issues are fixed, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it at $4k out the door.

It's a dealership. Run away. Dealerships trying to sell old Cherokees are very shady about it and can't be trusted, not to mention the high premium.. ask me how I learned this one!

Also, how you can tell the rear leafs are bad -- it's a stock XJ, 13 years old. that's how!

Another reason to run away -- besides the CEL and stuff---the 2001 models have weak/bad cylinder heads.

Check the coolant levels/quality, oil, look in the oil fill hole for crud, etc.. I had to be patient in my search as all the dealers had a ton of 2000s & 2001s but I held my ground and waited. Finally found a rust free, '97 for $3538. Had to drive 90 miles to get it, but worth it. Those lights are a concern. In the very least make them run a carfax so you can possibly see if it's been wrecked, etc..

Carfax is clean. One fender ding a few years back that's been fixed. Damn IT! I always think I've found the one and then it's not to be!

Carfaxes dont mean much of anything in regards to XJs, lol...I highly suggest you don't rely on them.

They didn't even bother to replace the right headlight! This dealer got this from an auction and did nothing but spit shine it and is asking a premium price. He paid about half of what he's asking for it.

Carfax is worthless. I've had two vehicles that were totaled and both show a clean report.
As for the rear springs I said that because it's squatting a good bit to the point the back tires would rub on a good bump and those are the smaller end of stock tires.
