Default Front air damper question

So on my 88' I have a piece of plastic under my bumper that i'm assuming is some type of damper to help airflow. I'm really thinking about removing it for looks and cutting my flares to the bottom of my end caps. Is there any issues with this idea? I have a front skid plate too if that helps out airflow.

No issues other than you may lose a small amount of mpg.

I just can't think of why air flow would affect mpg that much when my skid plate will deflect the air too

Front air dams keep turbulence under your vehicle to a minimum which helps with the MPG's.

well i suppose I'll just have to think about it since most of my driving is high way and mileage going 60+ is crucial, but the look I think will be so much better without it

If only there was a way to make an invisible air dam so I could run a body kit all the way down to the road but not look like a chump

You're not going to lose enough mpg by removing it to even worry about it.

Skid plate on a stock or lifted XJ? Stock with skid, just remove the air dam. And if you're lifted it's not working for **** anyway lol
