I can't wait for this! unfortunately it's going to be awhile though.. TJ's hold their value insanely well. where I can get a 97 XJ for $2800, a TJ costs $5800.

Jeep makes zero dollars from people driving $2000 XJ's and buying parts from RockAuto.
These are the last people on the planet you gear your company towards.
Jeep make money from people who buy new $30,000 cars every 5 years.

BMW people said BMW's now suck. Too many gizmos.
You know what? People LOVE gizmos.
Well, BMW sales are at an all time high, and BMW made more sales and income than they have in their entire history.

The may be for Jeep.
People LOVE soccer mom SUVs.
They are good business.
Selling o-rings for $1 to XJ drivers does not keep a company in business.
Not that you don't have valid points, but I think there is another one to be made. This Jeep enthusiast probably WOULD be buying a new Jeep every 5-7 years. IF they still made Jeeps I wanted to buy. Don't get me wrong, the JKs are extremely capable, and very rugged looking. But I test drove one, and what I immediately noticed is that it was still noisy as all get-out. The one thing I really don't miss at all about my TJ was how noisy it was. I got tired of not being able to use the Bluetooth on the radio (which is legally required where I live), and having to holler at my passengers at anything over 60 MPH.
I also test drove the new Grand Cherokee. VERY VERY nice. Too nice. I'd be afraid to take it off road and screw it up. They need a vehicle that has a mix of the nice quiet comfort of the JK, but still has some ability to put aftermarket bumpers and a winch on it. Right now, that is lacking. Outside of those two vehicles, everything else they make is a toy for hipsters.

The car navigation screen cracks me up as well, I don't know when the last time I got in a car that I didn't know how to get to my destination, I'd use it once in a blue moon when I'm in another town.

Agreed. I have no use for the $1800 technology package with NAV. I know where the heck I'm going 99.9 percent of the time. And on those instances where I don't, my phone has excellent GPS built in. I don't need adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, self-braking. I've been driving for 27 years. I think I have it figured out by now. What concerns me with all this electronic nanny-ing is that at some point, we'll have an entire segment of the population that CAN'T function without them. That's what scares me. Think of the insane lack of many peoples' ability to drive a standard transmission, and amplify that lack of skill to many other facets of driving. Frightening...
In my experience, many drivers on the road already suffer from a glaring lack of situational awareness, and the general concept of paying f@ck!ing attention. All the gizmos do is reinforce this lack of skill.
Our company buys Ford trucks for some of the staff. I got it one of the new F-150s that one of managers is now driving. I was dumbfounded. I counted no less than 54 buttons on the center dash and steering wheel. FIFTY FOUR! Meanwhile, my XJ has 9 buttons on the radio, three turn ***** on the dash, and four for the cruise on the steering wheel. And aside from seat heaters, I have all the same basic functionality he does.

I work in IT for a living, and I love my gadgets. But all of this stuff packed in cars is not necessarily a step in the right direction.

I paid $18,600 for my '02 TJ X from the dealer. Cruise, 7 speaker audio with sub, rear LSD, 3.73 gearing and a 5 speed. I sold it 10 years later, with 147,000 miles on the clock, for $10,000 even, to the first person that came and looked at it. By far the best resale value of any vehicle I've ever owned. I think the JK's may do as well or better.

Hey I hear you MacGyver, how about $70,000 for a 2015 Tahoe? Check out the cruise control in the upper right hand portion of the sticker.......$1700 for cruise control, yea I know it's adaptive, but still.

I see some really good deals on them on JKForum from time to time. Certainly still ridiculous at dealerships.. Another 5-10 years though (next year they lose solid axles but gain mpg... Sure lots of the soccer moms will trade their old heavy one in) and you should be able to get a good deal on em.

Ehhh... I'd rather not have to go on an adventure and waste gas when I can say "okay Google, navigate to the nearest CVS" and have my phone automatically route me there. Plus I do it once and know how to get there in the future.

I'm all for adventure but Marietta, GA is not anything worth adventuring.

^A great adventure: living in the larger jungle cities of the amazon where your mobility and that of many other thousands is a beat up 200cc dual bike.

I think they should have called this a Cherokee instead of the KL, this is better looking and looks more rugged than a KL which I think basically looks like just another minivan.

'

I like this better than the new cherokee....but will I buy one...nope...will always look for another xj

The solid axle Wranglers will hold their value when the ifs ones hit the market. I don't think we'll see a decline in price for sometime.

If you want the 6.2L you now have to get the GMC Yukon Denali, they no longer offer the 6.2L on the Tahoe (any trim including the LTZ) or Yukon SLE/SLT.

A Yukon Denali with a 6.2L and 4WD starts at $68K and one opioned the same as that Tahoe would cost about $76k

I hate how so many auto manufactures now make you buy a bunch of luxury "crap" that you don't want to get the functional mechanical bits you do want.

Yes, look at how well TJs hold their value because people still want the 4.0L I6.

Though from what I've been hearing it is looking like the Wrangler will probably stay solid axle for the next generation, but there is a good chance that it will go IFS after that. Though nothing has been confirmed either way yet.

In my neck of the woods you end up with a cherokee because you got tired of looking at rusty rotted wranglers for 2-3x the money of a solid XJ.

I have to say that I don't like any of the new Jeeps. I like a basic utility vehicle with some of the comforts.

There is a lot of pressure for manufacturers to adhere to the gas standards government is requiring so you will see more small, cheap, and light vehicles which the Renegade looks like. It is wrapped up as an off road vehicle because of the name Jeep but it is probably only really moderately an off road vehicle.

Strictly capable off road vehicles don't sell and that is what a lot of people are saying here. Look at the Toyota FJ, a capable off road vehicle. The sales numbers were around 50K a year and are now around 15K. They will stop selling the FJ in the States after 2014 but will not discontinue making them as they are opening up other markets like the Philippines.

I look at Jeep as the Soccer Mom vehicle that still leaves a ******** for the Dad.

The nice thing about XJs is that millions were made, parts are cheap, and it can be made into a great off road vehicle. If you have the skills, it can last as long as you do.
