You can do soo much more with a 44 then you 8.25 guys want to let on
For starters, in stock form, if you break a shaft on the trail, with a C-clip axle you will ALWAYS have to pull your diff cover to swap shafts. Rarely will you have to do this with a non c-clip. So unless you carry RTV, a few quarts of gear oil and have a ton of time, there is advantage one.
Secondly, you can swap in a D50 R+P and throw in some huge 35spline shafts which will increase your strength dramatically! It is not that expensive either! For example http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/axles...your-hp44.html. People run 38s+ on built 44s quite frequently... No one does that on an 8.25.. at least not for very long.
Im not saying that the 8.25 is a piece of junk, im just saying there are reasons besides "the name" why people want 44s. After market is huge and you can make them virtually indestructible.

Everybody knows D44 is better, everybody would like to have one, that's why they get the premium. Most people don't need them, won't realize the potential, etc, but everybody still wants one.

I wasn't saying it's not a better axle. It definitely is but to a newbie the name sell it. To people knowledgeable as you the stuff you listed will sell it not the name.Originally Posted by Ianf406

That kit is.. you are correct. I always get them backwards... D50 into HP44 for a ~40% increase in strength, JK44 into standard D44 for ~40% increase. this is one of the available kits for standard D44s.Originally Posted by Justjoshnya
