Default Dana 44 rear axle value

Bought a parts XJ. An 87 with a Dana 44 rear. Any idea what a nice rust-free Arizona rear end like that is worth? Auto trans so it should be 3.55 gears. Felt like my other Jeeps when I drove it around.

Personally I paid $275 for the one I bought a year ago. My 98 had the d35, and I came across the 44 locally and picked it up the first weekend I had the XJ. I see them listed anywhere from $250-$500 here in Texas. I would never pay $500 for one cause you can get 8.25's for around $200 and they are pretty close in strength. But some people might.

$200-500 sounds about right depending on local market and overall condition, things like does it have LSD, how many miles on the gears, are brakes intact and working, that kind of thing

I have seen people try to sell bare D44 housing without shafts for $200, no takers for a year, then a TJ owner bought it for a conversion

No LSD. Rust free and quiet. 229K on it. Brakes are fine.

Personally I wouldn't pay much more for a D44 then a 29 spline Chy 8.25, not to much to be gained in my book. JMHO

I agree. The one I found was the only one I had seen. I had done about 2 years of looking on craigslist in four different locations.

I'd bet 400-450. It's tax refund time.

People will pay for the name. This will make some guy out there with Rubicon stickers on his XJ very happy.

I wouldn't pull my 8.25 out to replace it with a D44 but that may be more of a laziness thing.
