Default Dana 44 axle problem

I pulled a rear member drop out of a a Dana 44 axle and now i'm trying to pull my axles out of my Dana 44 and the axle shafts will not budge. Does anybody know if Dana 44 axles come with pins to hold the shaft in?

It either has c-clips in the diff ends or four bolts behind the drum plates.

I unbolted the four bolts and it still barely moves. I turned my brum brakes around and used them like a slide hammer and still nothing.

A dana 44 is a bolt in axle? I thought they were c-clip. I have never had a 44 rear dif so I can't say for sure, but I would guess c-clip.

Ha ha yup you need to beat on it and it sounds like you still have the drums and breaks on you need to get all that off first before you can pull the shafts.

Depends on the year and assembling company.

Hey guys, this is what slide hammers are for. This is the number one use for that tool. Buy, rent or borrow a nice heavy one and give it a couple of whacks and the axle will slide right out. You need them many times on Ford axles also.

A short piece of chain will also work in a pinch! I think what he was saying was that he did remove the 4 bolts and turned the drum around to use it as a makeshift slide hammer. You know run a couple lugs on a few threads to allow it to move in and out a small amount

No.. you do not need to remove the brake hardware to pull the shafts....

Yes.. it makes it QUITE a bit easier to remove the backing plate bolts.

He can't devolp enough power with the brake drum/slide hammer trick.

VatoZone and O'Reillys both have slide hammers on their loan-a-tool program.

And that is what the hole in the shaft face is for....

I must be reading something wrong here...

But you are claiming you dropped the third member out of a Dana 44???

You can't remove the carrier(intact) with the shafts still in it.
