But you are claiming you dropped the third member out of a Dana 44???

You can't remove the carrier(intact) with the shafts still in it.
Come on guys, he obviously meant the differential assembly, it's not that everybody must know technical therminology, and if you would have read better it doesn't say "third" anywhere, and member is a good synonym for it.

He is replacing the carrier assembly with a jy unit. His spider gears were welded by the p.o. and done so in a poor attempt to lock the rear axle.

Would the fullsize Waggy D44s have the c-clips? I know his front axle is a D44 from a Waggy and the rear may have come from the same vehicle. The po did the swap over.

There are *NO* D44 C clip axles used in any 4wd housing EXCEPT the D44HD used in the Grand Cherokee from 96-98

Slide hammer after removing the 4 bolts. Or curse at it harder. A good Italian can make a rusty bolt wilt with the right words.

The front Waggy was not an alum housing. It had a cast iron "perch" where the CAD was mounted.

The only 44's that are alum are in a) Jaguar Rear b) Corvette rear c) Grand Cherokee rear (has alum centersection & steel tubes).

Mike ... you weren't the only person suggesting C clips ....

Just trying to make the point LOUD & CLEAR before more misinformation gets out accidently.

If using the drum brakes as a slide hammer doesn't work try using a large brass punch. That's what I used to get one out of my D44. Just take the punch and go around it with a hammer and the punch with some good whacks.

Aw Shaddap.

If there is one thing I'm a stickler about .... it's making sure people get the right information. There is so much bad info that gets passed around that can cause more problems them help.

Does it mean that I might lose a potential customer in the process? Sure. Not everyone likes an abrasive post .... but I'm not sugarcoating anything and you're getting the information you need. Sometimes my posts might actually cost me a sale because I might offer a better product or solution than what I can do for you. But I sleep better at night knowing I did the right thing.

Now ... about how I word things .... you'll have to ask my wife. Seems like I'm becoming famous for misappropriate / misworded thoughts ......
