I like that 89, if I lived in cali it would be tempting to go buy that.

 

Just keep looking. I paid $5100 for my 2000 XJ with 118,000 on the clock and I STILL overpaid. This seller is out of his mind, plus auto trader always high-***** the price. Do craig's list. Find a private seller and go drive it, and get a feel for the jeep's history. Online buying is so impersonal, that you really have no idea what youre getting.

 

very true, i spoke to seller today and sent her a few links to kbb listings. she said she made a mistake with listing price and i think we should be able to get much closer to what i want i want to pay. a few others have come up:

which looks good. not much on craigslist out here at the moment thats near to me (i am in los angeles), but hunting away.

when i do get my XJ, what does anyone recommend for service/maintenance? not a jeep dealer i am sure as $$$, but as new in town don't know any mechanics. anyone got any links to people in LA (especially north LA, Topanga)?

the Country replaced the Limited name plate... in 93 so basically it is a limited with the Country name

188k on clock, 2 owners, service history available, price is firm at $3850.

any thoughts? questions i should be asking owner? i know XJs run and run, but at this milage, what should i be looking to or expecting to have to replace soon?

 

I would check it for rust.. and see if it has been in any accidents I see it just passed smog so that is very good cali is very strict from what hear... and get the service records that would tell you when everything was done...

 

also make sure its not leaking

 

can be pretty certain no rust, but will check if its always been a cali car, and they said they got records of service so will have a look thru. by leaking do you mean oil or something else? would one expect a car of this age/milage to have a few leaks and that be ok, or should it really be performing perfectly.

i got a mechanic locally who eyeballed the last one i nearly bought (a 2000 XE sport, turned out cooling system rusted out, shocks done, transmission on way out, he said steer clear as had obviously been patched up for a quick sale to someone who would not look to closely) which i will try and get to look at it. no pics of interior, have you got any of yours so i can get s sneak preview?

ETA: as you got a 1990 Laredo, would you rate this over a XJ limited say up to 1999, and if so, why?

 

Check for coolant leaks, radiators don't last forever and nor do hoses. If either one lets go it can kill your engine pretty fast.

 

$3850 for an 89 with that many miles in also insane. Im getting the feeling that LA has no mercy with car prices...

 

i guess not, seems pretty average for round here - but i would hope to get at least 500/1000 off
