How far are you willing to drive for a good deal on a nice Jeep?
There were some really nice ones in Southern Oregon on the Calif border when I was looking for mine, you'd probably get a better price here as well.

i would go pretty far - almost went to san fran for one... good idea to have a look up there, would craigslist be the best place?
thanks for the head info - would it be obvious when it cracked (sorry if this is a lame question...) like something you could physically see or hear?

So I bought 1 today:
2000 Cherokee Sport, 67K on clock, clean as a whistle, except a little front bumper damage which is being fixed tomorrow.
thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.
now i need to get my head round some basic mechanics and keep it on the road for another 200K

as for mods, thinking on that. i got some interior work to do - need some sounds put in there as original tape deck right now - although i love look of it, got to get an ipod hook up. need some good fog lights, and not sure what else. what does anyone recommend?
honestly, one of the best things you can add to your XJ are window vents. being able to crack the windows is very under-rated. Once you have them, you'll want them on every vehicle you own. Other than that, for mods, it all depends on what you want. Figure out what you want you XJ to be like, and then go from there. There's no reason to spend money on mods and end up not happy with them and wanting something different.

I think I am going to replace the cooling system in full. On another thread was recommended to do it as mine is running hot - over 210 most of the time, although never over 220. But just don't want to risk a full overheat and think the radiator has seen better days.
