Cherokee was Flat towed in park, 2H
Hey guys, I need some help.
I've got a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ with an auto trans. It's got 187,000 miles on it.
A towing company had towed my Jeep Cherkoee and didn't disconnect the drive axles. The transmission was in park and 2H. Also, the front end was not on the vehicle, meaning just the tires were not on the axle. When i got the jeep, I went to start it up and drive it but there is no feeling of the shifter going into any gear. Before they towed it, I could feel it go into a gear just like every car should. Now, there is no resistance or feeling of the selector even touching a gear.
Given the fact the towing company probably neglected to properly tow the vehcile, what exactly am i looking at/should be looking at for clear sign indicators that they have destroyed the transmission? Do you guys think the trans is screwed or could it something fixable to get it to be driven home?
Let me know what you guys think. I can't find any forums listing things to check with something like this.

Yes sir. The transfer case was in 2H. Now I dont truly know how they towed it, they may have put it on a flatbed and towed it but I saw shiney marks at the bottom of the front axle.

Get your facts straight.
I owned a towing business for 13 years. The marks on the axle could be from chains , straps or J hooks used to put the Jeep on a flatbed and/or tie it down safely.

So what can the potential problem be?
