"CHEROKEE" engraving
So while I was at the junkyard I came across this engraving mounted to the bottom of the front bumper on a 93 cherokee. I've tried searching for it and haven't come up with anything on it. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?!

It even has a part number or some sort of identification on the back, however nothing seems to come up when researched. Any sort of input is appreciated! Thanks

That's a branding iron for road kill.
Made from a special mix of cast aluminium for embosing the make of vehicle into the foreheads of the victims so as to identify the culprit.

cheers

This sparked my curiosity... I had to search it for myself and I found a thread on cherokeetalk about the same thing. Looks like they never found out what it was either.

it was probably a casting from the assembly plant for the rack of cherokee bumpers. someone probably didn't care about his job too much and left if on the bumper when it was assembled onto the jeep. could of been the last bumper of that year so they didn't need that casting anymore and decided to let it go on the jeep.
who knows.
who knows.
