I went with Gabriel Pro-Gards, they're about $25 each.
The ride isn;t bad, but remember my XJ has 3" lift, shackles rear, and springs in the front.
So it rides a little stiffer than the stock XJ.
Sure rides better with than without them.

I dont want something to stiff but I dont mind it as long as it dosent break my lower spine. So far im stuck between the base gabriels and the monroes. I think im going to go with the monroes but even though the gabriels I have on it now are rusty and shot they did ride slightly decent, well for the short amount of time I drove it anyway lol

I have had those Monroe's on my Yj for almost 3 years (DD) & they still dampen the bumps nicely. I'm gonna get them for my XJ soon.

If your planning on lifting it anyway, I would suggest going with the appropriate length shock now. Just money saved for the left later.

I got a 95 XJ, stock. 87 XJ, 3" lift, 95 Ford F350 4x4 Off Road, the 87 rides lots better than the F350, no comparison. The 95 Rides the best with just elcheapo shocks on it.
I would expect the Pro-Guards to ride good on a stock suspended XJ once broken in.
Alot of Shocks have a lifetime on them, so keep your receipt and plan on using it.
If you thought you might go with a 3" lift I used Rears from Commanche, and Fronts from a YJ but neither come with Cross Bar Pins, so I have to extract the cross bar pins from my old shocks and press them into the new ones.

I dont plan on lifting it any time soon. Thats why I planned on going cheap on it since I only paid $200 for the xj.
