I bought a BT unit off of ebay a while back, but I haven't really played with it much on my 96, I'm still trying to get it drivable. I'm thinking about installing an old Android phone in the dash to use as a vehicle monitoring type station.

I'm running that app with the bluetooh adapter. You don't to fill all that stuff in unless you're going to use the live data. I only filled in about half of the stuff like make, model, engine, gvrw, ete. I mostly just read and clear the codes, but I can see the rev, rpm, vac, etc too.

I run a repair shop and often use it at work. It works well enough and is very handy.

I think I wanna revive this old thread. Has anybody been using these apps with the Bluetooth adaptor?

I've got the cheap eBay vlm327 (i think) for like $20 a while ago and I've been using the torque pro app but it's just not cutting it for me. I'm mainly using it on my wife's 2004 Grand Prix GTP that seems to either have a misfire or some sort of trans chug that I can't narrow down since the torque app doesn't show misfire data.

Anybody using a different app that has more technical data?

At first I thought it was cool. Probably because of the whole phone thing. I run a repair shop. But honestly it's easier and better to just grab one of my scanners. Also they do a lot more.

In short it's just a toy in my opinion.

It's very cheap, and works fine for home use. I've got it, have used it to check fuel trims quite a bit. It's also good for looking o2 sensor values etc. I've got a 97 and I don't think there is much you can do to pull out custom PID values - at least I haven't found any. I just scan the list of available sensors and look for the green ones. There's quite a lot on there, certainly as much as I'd expect from a pretty basic OBDII setup.

Yeah I know. But I can't justify the need for a scan tool just yet. I'd really like to have a tech2 since it seems like I have the most problems with gm stuff lol.

I think I found a decent app last night tho. It's called LapLogger and it was only a couple bucks so we'll see how well it does as far as providing more vehicle data.

That torque app also didn't seem the most accurate since it was telling me the car was making close to 30lbs boost.. and it's stock...

Default Phone vs. reader connection

I'm about to pick this up if my device can support having 2 bluetooth connections (phone/transmitter)- anyone know? I've got my wal-mart scanner in case the technology fails me in a pinch.

I have the elm327 old phone in a couple of my cars. Works great. I don't know if you can do that at the same time you also BT earbud or BT stream media to the head unit.
