Default Any reason to seek out a 97+ xj or be happy with my 93?

I have a 93 sport model with none of the bells and whistles. I'm letting my brother borrow my truck for a while which means I'm now DDing the XJ. I can't help but find myself wanting the basic creature comforts of power windows and locks. I figure if I go for another XJ with the power options, I might as well go for the 97+ (99 being ideal) I could however throw in some universal power windows and locks with remote start for pretty cheap off amazon. So basically I'm asking, should I upgrade my 93 XJ with aftermarket power options or find a 97+ with the factory power group? I've already put in a bit of work on my 93 which was mainly an entire cooling system overhaul and changing of freeze plugs. I still need to fix the oil filter adapter o rings and replace the freeze plugs behind the motor.. or should I just buy a newer one?

There is two sides to this debate.

1. You want to go a different route with your build, why not start fresh with a newer rig?

2. You desire Chrysler electronic door mechanisms. Expect for them to not work part of the time.

I prefer the ergonomics of the 97+ cabin, even the stock seats. (not to say a pre 97 isn't comfy) This is the only reason I would trade for a newer XJ.

I have both and no power options between my two xjs. Both are 97. The power is nice for when have a kid. As for trail and off roading it's all about the non power options

yeah i hear how unreliable the chrysler power electronics can be. maybe i'm just feeling bored and looking for a change. my xj is in pretty decent condition.. maybe i'll just do the aftermarket upgrades

I love my 99 Its nice compared to the pos 89 I had. All of my power windows and door locks work just fine. And I have a metal tailgate instead of fiberglass.

X2 keep it simple. I only have two wires going into my doors! And none under my seats! Less to worry/care about.

I've been looking at getting a 97+ as well. My 95' has power options, but I'd prefer manual windows and locks. At least they work when you want it too.

I like the newer ones better, thats why I baught one. But as far as the electric windows and locks, I would literally swap my power doors with someone with manual, do all the labor involved and still put some cash on top of the trade. Everything works but I just dont like it, wires to disconect when I take the doors off, plus I will be pissed when something finally goes and I have to waste time on fixing it. I have more important things to fix on my Jeep then electric freaking windows that I dont like in the first place.

I have a '91 Limited model with all of the bells and whistles. (except sunroof) I got so used to it. That for the first two years I owned it. I didn't realize that the rear hitch was part of the tow pkg. option. I just thought every XJ had them. If your going to spend a lot time in your XJ, all the comforts are worth having.
