Default AMC questions?

When did the XJ's change from being an AMC machine to a Chrysler product?Also,were the AMC one's beefier???My "88 seems to have thicker steel compared to newer ones,or is it me?Just curious!

They are all pretty much the same thing, if anything I think the Chrysler ones were tougher, they got rid of some of crappy component's AMC was using.

Jeep was bought out in like 1988.

Chrysler bought AMC in 87, they started being "chrysler" in 88.
Renix system was gone in 91.

Nope its not just you...Thicker steel is right.

My XJ's original body panels are definitely thicker than some of the other body panels Ive replaced with newer panels from newer XJ's.
You can also hear the difference, older panels go thud, when you knock on them, newer ones have a thin "tin like" sound. You should be able to clearly hear the difference.

As far as drivetrain components...I have no clue, besides the D30 U-joints, being not as strong as the newer ones.
