I know there are millions of threads out there on similiar topics... but....
My jeep sees mud more than it does any other type of offroading, and after every hunting trip or any mud hole i hit i have to take the air filter out and clean all the mud out that gets in the air box from the breathing hole. I dont want to do a snorkel... nor do i have money for one, but im just wondering what yall do about stuff getting inside of it, is it fine?

If you're geting mud in your box there's a good chance of geti g water in there too which could be very, very bad if it were to get into the intake. Have you considered a cowl snorkle? It's easy, cheap, but most importantly, effective.

and if you are going to make a cowl snorkel get rid of the air box all together. I have seen some where they add hose from the air box to the cowl area.
go directly from the throttle body to the cowl area.

seal you air box, with a filter in there. cut a hole in the back and run a pipe to your cowl. itll pull the air in through there and you wont have to worry about sucking in water or mud if you dropped your front in.

looks like im doing a cai.... lol jk.
but Thanks for the tips dawgz. sealing the front hole, and relocating it in the back of the box where mud doesnt spray in seems like it would cure my problems, but sealing the hole and running a cowl snorkel sounds like the way to go. Im Definitely looking into those soon, and staying out of the mud for now.
another question.... i need a new filter, are k&ns worth the 40$ or are they just as good as any other filter?

never ever seen a sealed air box. looked at a few pic here that said they sealed their box and i seriously doubt its sealed.
Actually you can seal an airbox. Problem is you won't be able to get the filter out to change it if it is completely water tight. I sealed all the holes in mine and the seal around the top of the filter is what seals the box after it's closed. Do I take it through super deep water and use it for the purpose for a snorkel? I could for a short distance probably but I never plan on going that deep. Will it work as "insurance" for deep water and mud. Hell yes.

Actually you make no sense. You keep the air box because you want an air filter in line before the throttle body. Unless you are going for an aftermarket style that has an air filter already included.
