Default 8.8 axle wrap

Hey all,

Was thinking of picking up an 8.8 at the local junk yard but I first wanted to see out of the people who have installed one on the XJ, how many of them had axle wrap? I would be getting the kit that serious offroad makes (http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.co...y-Ford-8.8-Kit) which comes with the anti-wrap perches. I do not want to deal with putting an anti-wrap bar on so that is why I am asking. Any responses would be appreciated.

What size tires do you run and how/ what do you wheel on?

You will 99% likely be ok with the anti wrap perches, as long as you have good leaf packs and other components with a good driving style. An axle wrap bar wouldn't hurt anything, though.

i run 31s as of now but will be at 35s eventually. I know the 8.8 is over kill for now but i don't want to drop a dime into the dana35 so I'd rather start right. I want to be able to push that skinny pedal when I want and not have to worry. Thanks for the reply.

An 8.8 is perfect for 35's. I wouldn't call it overkill. All leaf springs will have some axle wrap, yours shouldn't be bad as long as you don't run lift blocks.

I was thinking of getting serious's kit because it comes with adapting flange as well, but I am open to opinions.

yes, all in one place. but come on $58 more expensive than the ruffstuff kit and that yoke costs maybe $30 at your local driveline shop

up to you. I'll take the anti-wrap leaf perches any day http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...g/88SS-31.html

yea but after shipping from two places it would probably be a little more expensive. I am pretty sure that serious offroads perches are anti-wrap as well. Not sure if there is a driveline shop where I live, I just moved here and it is a small town...I'll have to check though. I just bought an 8.8 off ebay for 225 but I won't be installing till April time frame so I got awhile

You can find the yoke at a good JY for $10.

Pretty sure the F-150 & Explorer share the same one.

No they don't have the correct size companion flange.

Take a close look at the TeraFlex Anti-Wrap perches in my kit. See a straight edge on the leading or trailing edge? Care to guess what can happen to leaf spring when the axle wraps enough to push the edge into the leaf?

TeraFlex is simply a better design.

how would that happen even in a wrap situation? the ubolt would practically have to be loose for the perch edge to dig into the leaf... if the perch and plate is sandwiching the leaf pack as it should I can't see an issue. if your leaf twists enough for it to break or fatigue at the edge of the perch of all places.. well, I'd sure like to see a picture of that

just curious, how long are the teraflex ones? I'll measure some ruffstuff ones for comparison
