Default $6k for a 1999 XJ?

Is the asking price too high? I was thinking $5k would be more in line with the value but have never bought a XJ before (currently own Wranglers).

Too rich. Looks like they added up the receipts and put that down.

Adding things to any car or truck does not make the book value go up.

That thing would sell all day long for 6k up here in CT. being from Texas adds value up here. Paid 5k for my wife's with 165k bone stock. It was a super clean one owner. Not sure what the market is like in TX but there are a lot for sale within a 100 mile radius from me in the 5-6k$ range with 98-130k miles. All bone stock of course. I would at least try for 5-5500

I'm pretty sure I can get the '99 for around $5k just can't look at it in person until Tuesday when the current owner gets back to town.

That's a clean XJ, but it's a basic XJ..

I paid $5k for mine, but it was a fully-loaded Limited with 1 owner.

He didn't list the brand of lift or tires.

Ah, come on, that light bar adds $1k to the price easily. :P

I love how on the '97 and up XJs they NEVER show the left side of the driver's seat in pictures but always show the passenger side. You know the driver's side seat is ripped like they all are. That must have been the worst seat cover design in automotive history.

To add to the thread, I think $6k is too rich and the owner is dreaming.

Nothing about that says 6k to me. I agree that the owner is dreaming. Base model, not many extras.

If it's clean with 164k I'd say $3,500 in my area.

You Yanks are missing something here that's important to understand: There's ALOT of funny-money (and real wealth, too) floating around Texas. $6k is not unusual in these parts; it's pretty much the norm for what he's showing. Now, whether you would (or have to) pay that much for it is a different story. I would never pay what anyone is asking for something but, you've got to be skilled at negotiating and you better know what you're talking about.

There's a subjective element to this also. If the product meets the buyers needs and expectations and he/she is willing to pay that much, they have deemed it "worth it" and, ultimately, that's all that matters.

Hell, I joke with a friend of mine who is constantly trying to get me to sell mine to him. I tell him "10 grand" and who knows, he may end up paying it. He just hasn't yet.

Look at member FTHESHACK. His rig would probably sell for close to about 20k down here. Maybe even more.

We don't have rust issues either.

To the OP: The real question is, do you value that rig at $6,000 dollars? And don't forget: The seller is wanting to buy your dollars in return. You gotta learn to negotiate.

Texas-XJ,

Here's another you may be interested in inquiring about that's in your desired price range:

A nice starter rig. You don't have to question the mods this way.

It's also a 2000, which has the prone-to-cracking head.

Not really a good "starter" rig especially if you're new to Cherokees and don't know these things.

If I were OP, I would stick to 99 and earlier.

I just recently moved to Texas. I've been perusing Craiglist for the major metro areas and have been amazed at the sheer number of reasonably priced XJs that appear to be in good shape. The supply here seems to be outpacing demand something fierce and keeping the prices low. There doesn't seem to be any reason to pay $6K for one when there are just so many of them around for so much cheaper.

Sure, there are suckers who will pay that much. But there don't have to be, and OP doesn't have to be one of them.

Default $6k for a 1999 XJ?

I paid 2500 for my 99 3-1/2 years ago with a 3" lift and 31's and 140k. I upgraded every part of the suspension and steering added plenty of armor , full exhaust , rear locker , flares , hood vents , new wheels , 33's. now it has 185k. If I sell it I'll ask 3500 tops
