I got above a 3.5 in automotive technology. And I ask stupid questions to get people thinking. I know the answers and can get the documents by making phone calls. It was based on ppl saying I don't need it or this is my justification. That's why I don't want anything over 3 inches. Too many modifications to the power train, body lines and inspection. Anything over 3 inches in stock height used on or off road shall have a roll cage or bars in the passenger compartment.

To clear this argument. The states will ticket you for no flares, yes. Federal standards push it and the states love federal grant money! Think of it like this, you push what they want, they give you what they have. Safe or not, I will find out for my own info.

Dre - seriously you have too much time on your hands. You hold long conversations on the internet with yourself, comment on your own comments, and ask & answer your own questions. It must be lonely where you are .
I don't come here looking for serious conversation, meaningful discourse or even tech. I come here to be amused. You fit the bill.

After getting them to the shape I want them at I'm going to scuff them up evenly and then shoot them with some paint.

As you can see here I cut them at a angle in to the body and then heated and bent the tuing in to the body of the jeep. I didn't like how it looked the way it went inwards with the body line.

I'm glad I found this thread after I went and bought this stuff to do mine I was thinking I was the only one crazy enough to try to make flares out of something like this until I found this thread lol Cheap, looks good and get to keep $300+ in the pocket can't go wrong there that's for sure.

CJ

how do these act going down the road do they hold form or flop all over

Sorry. I'm on an iPad and I can type very fast on here. I will side bar from now on. And I will make calls and get statue numbers for those who care. I already have a list of ticket from NJ and none say flares, but says mud flaps.

Question BigDog/CJ. Did u cut the body line out on that bottom molding or did u go on the inside of the wheel well? Can't really tell on the back lower half. It looks great.

When I painted my jeep I just painted it with the stock flares still on it so when I took them off the was a paint line of the new plack paint and the old blue paint and I just followed that line when I cut the fender. Is that the line you were asking about?

No. In one pic it shows the passenger fender. The bottom molding, did u tuck the flare inside the wheel well or revet the flare to the outside. Sorry, exhausted from training. Hope it sounds how I'm picturing it. Lol!

I think you are talking about where it goes in at a angle on the rear part of the front flare, if you look on page 4 of the thread I have pics there of how I did that cut on it. All of it is rivited on the same way on the inside of the fender and then just cut out the angle on the plastic then used the heat gun to soften the tube part of the plastic so I was able to bend and mold it inwards to the angle I cut.
