Its a mix of 3/16 and 1/4. The mounts are 3/16. I used that thickness because the entire front end of my jeep is plated with 1/4. The mounts only stick out at the most about 1/2 inch from the front of the frame.

for every other bumper build(his being the exception), I'd say that 1/4" would be the minimum to use for frame mounts/winch plate and 3/16" for everything else. Once I get my hands on a welder and plasma cutter that can handle it, my next bumper will be built out of 5/16" or 3/8" for the frame mounts and winch plate

just so you know the 3/8" stuff is not easy to work with and requires a GOOD welder...

here is a piece of scrap from my bumper up next to a piece of rod the same thickness as the factory skids..




and to the OP this turned out to be a GREAT bumper. Like everyone else i was iffy on the first design, but no it has grown on me I hope it lasts!!!!
