LACK, I'm not saying the way you did it isn't strong by any means. I just like the added strength of the C-channel. I'd add runners at the bottom like you did as well. The combination of the two is what I have in mind when I replace my rockers.

When I did mine I faced the angle iron the opposite way to sit the corners together like a stiffener. Gives more support and more penetration between the 2x6, iron, and unibody. Waiting on stiffeners to go in before I run supports.

I have nothing against the c-channel idea at all, looks like an effective method for sure. I was just simply stating I did something similar with angle iron on the inside of the rocker.

I did mine nearly identical to this write up.

Theres definitely more than one way to skin a cat when it comes to 2x6 rockers. I just worked with the material I had.

I hear ya brother. Im just jelly of your CA weather. I walked past my xj this morning and saw a piece of the rocker broke off. I knew I needed to do the rockers, I've just been so busy with everything else (first child) that the projects go to the backburner. Now that we're in the winter, it's too cold. I'm going to gather the material needed and get it done spring time.

Looks good, thought about adding some tube to mine as well.

So if I did a c channel, or angle iron mounted to the frame do I need to do stiffeners anyway? I'm going to do the install just like this write up but I do like the addition of the extra support from something being welded to the frame first. Thoughts.

If you plan on using the jeeps on rocks it's always smart to tie it to the frame. If you plan on keeping the jeep a long time with a fair amount of wheeling it's best to do stiffeners with the supports.

OK thanks. I don't plan on any wheeling as I'm building my XJ for a back road/gravel runner. With the 3.5 lift, wheels and such I'm pretty close to done, other than a front bumper for clearance.
Now my major focus is on getting rid of the rusty floor pans and rockers. Doing the 2x6 rockers will help a lot but I didn't really know "how far" to take it.

Check out that link I posted earlier in this thread. Its a good write up how to do the 2x6 rockers.

Id advise anyone who is going to do any kind of wheeling with an xj to consider stiffeners. They aren't necessary to do the 2x6 rockers, just know that if they aren't braced to stiffeners you are only attaching the rockers to sheet metal which isn't going to be as strong.

All depends on what you plan on doing with your xj.

Nice, a mini boatside. I like it, just don't want to cut into my floor.

That is awesome, but if I get to that point I am also going to weld skid plates to both sides to seal it off on the bottom.
