While I've never discussed this with the engineer that developed the case/mounting arrangement for my Uniden, I can say this is the 3rd vehicle I have installed it in such a manner (my beloved flat fender, a '99 Super Duty, and now this XJ). Now granted I'm no rock hound or KOH racer, but I do my share of four wheeling and the single-side mount has treated me pretty fairly through the years. I've probably got a picture somewhere of my flattie upside down on a trail called Terminator down in Arizona, with me still strapped in chatting on the CB

BTW, I see in your sig you have a trans temp guage... Where did you mount yours? I'm looking for good ideas... Thanks!! [/hijack of my own thread]

Fair enough. I haven't taken a CB apart to know how it's designed, but if it works, cool.

I mounted the sensor for the trans temp gauge in the oil line going up to the coolers, about three inches from the outlet of the trans. It reads the hottest temperature of the fluid. When the torque converter is slipping it can get up to 250 deg F, but the rest of the trans isn't that hot. I've picked up a second sensor to put in the return line to get a better idea of how well the coolers are working but haven't installed it yet. I'll put a switch in line with the gauge to monitor both with a single gauge. The gauge is mounted where your CB is, in front of the t-case shifter.
