They have had air compressors that use the spark plug and cylinder for years. I carry one in my bag of tools. I you replace the spark plug and replace it with a fitting and start pumping. A tire going boom from an air/fuel mix is the least of our worries considering what we do on the trails.

Here is my set up, tank is on the back and not shown. It is elaborate, but fully automatic an requires no brains at all to operate.

How do you lube this compressor? Ive converted a few GM a/c's but never get much more then a couple dozen uses. burned up bearings.
Ive even added a self oiler to the intake side.

I know Several York have their own internal oiling system.

Can you share?

i decided this is what i wanna do. i got a small dual head compressor from work which puts out only like 4 amps. so if i get an inverter everything should be hunkydorey..

how big is your inverter? I WAS LOOKING AT A PEAK MODEL FROM AUTOZONE. 800 watts..

I have oil in the crank case of the compressor. The separator takes it out and then returns it back to the compressor crank case. I have it set up automatically. That is why there are two pressurized air lines to it. Kilby enterprises has a manual system for this for the York. I just adapted it to the Sanden and used it with some ARB air valves run by some relays. One thing is that I keep the crank case unpressurized when operating so it will have a tendency to force any oil back in to the case when operating. It only really leaks past when sitting and doing nothing.
