Now, i have been out of the game for quite some time... But, isn't Jeepspeed sanctioned by M.O.R.E. ??? If thats the case, i am fairly certain that DOM is required and there are a TON of rules and regulations that go along with building a cage that will pass tech inspection.

I used to run a Ranger in the 1450 class back about 10 years ago. The rules were strict then, and i can't imagine what they are like now...

Its great you wanna learn, and i appluad that. But with little to no exp. you could build a cage out of 2" solid titanium that could still fail and kill you. HREW,1020DOM, and cro mo are all good steels to build a cage out of depending on your wheeling type.

as for specific tube, if you plan to race, use the regs as a min for safety.

but all that said, even if a play cage, it really boils down to design, and the quailty of the welds.

have someone weld the cage for you, or maybe start with some non-critical fab projects to get you feet wet. just my opiion.

this is what i am doing i am doing my rock slider and stiffeners and some other small thing plus building my welder a cart before i get into building a cage plus you need a bender and die/s which to get a decent one thats 700 all together. also to answer your welder question i am going to be picking up the hobart handler 140, welds up to 1/4 inch and all the reviews on it everywhere say it is great and it won't kill your wallet ether if you find it in the right spot and it is 110

^^great to hear, glad you didn't let your ego get ahead of your ability, take your time, learn from your mistakes, its part of the fun.

the 140 is a great machine make sure you get it with the gas solenoid, i had one once, now im on a miller 210(before they came out with the 211 auto set)

either way looks like a good deal. if you do get the welder, make sure to read all the material, and double check the interanl polarity wiring verus the type of wire you use(flux/inershield, solid).

good luck with your build, and be sure to post up the progress

I dont plan on it like i stated before. I know its not as easy as it looks but youd be surprised what people can do when they really want something.
