Default Welding question

So I'm building a bumper for my xj and have heard that when welding, metal will warp slightly. I have also been told that it would be best to weld it while its mounted to the jeep. Is this 100% true? If I weld in sections and take breaks will I be able to weld it unmouted? Thanks in advance for any answers

if your worried, stitch weld it from side to side. far apart and work yourself in.
and keep a bucket of water and a rag to cool down the welds.

but i've never really had a problem, just don't do really long welds without tacking every corner to keep it in shape first. even then, just do short stitch welds.

For the last bumper I made I tack welded it mounted and finished it off the vehicle, just take breaks in between long welds.

I guess it goes without saying, but you never know, be sure and disconnect your battery when welding on a vehicle.

Be sure to get a lot of practice, on a lot of plate, before tackling anything that you're depending on.

My apologies. I thought that because it was a question about building a bumper it classified as fabrication.

Because it's an internet forum and 99% of people don't read stickies, rules, ect.
