That's awesome is the wire heavy enough to support the load without melting

Bought a different shifter **** at Walmart for $13 and modded to work as the button. Push the whole thing down and it shifts fine. I drilled a 1/8" hole through the shifter **** and the plastic button that goes in the metal tube. Then I inserted a cotter pin through both so they hold together and the pin slides in the two slots on the shifter tube. I've been driving around for the past 2 days like this and haven't had a problem.

Does anybody have a drawing for a roof rack they have built with some dimensions? Not trying to steal ideas, but if it works!! Any help appreciated.

Looks similar to using the older style rear bumper corners, although I do like the look of yours more as the older ones lines don't match the 97+.. and I like the Homebrew touch.

Pull, be careful you dont smack yourself in the face though a few places I've read you're supposed to bicep curl it, but that seems problematic, I'd stradle it and lift with my legs. I'm going to make my own handle in metals but I'm trying to see what the inside mechanics of it are and how the button works before I do.

I've read that some people use a soft-blow hammer to get it off. No personal experience here, though.

It just pulls off.. just make sure you don't twist it. Straight up is the way to go.

The inside mechanics are simple. The button is connected through a rod that runs to the middle of the T where it connects with a small connector rod positioned at a 45° angle. At the other end of that connector rod is another small rod in the vertical portion of the ****. That rod pushes down a rod inside the shifter arm when the button is pushed.
