Thank you all for the compliments. My dad was a welder for 30+ years but passed away when I was 23 (I'm 33 now) so I was self taught really out of wanting to do something I knew he was great at. I just started welding a few years ago so every project I learn something new.
On another note I took her out for a maiden voyage with the new rack/light combo this weekend...
Sorry to hear about your father passing. I'm sure he'd be proud that you're carrying on the tradition, even if it is only in hobby. That rack looks awesome. Seriously nice work.
On the JCR mounts, did you mount them in the gutters first and then measure across mount-to-mount to help with your final dimensions?

Thank you. When I made my first rack I kind of threw a tape measure up there and decided "4 foot by 6 foot was a good size." Im slightly OCD with certain things and didn't want "off" numbers to work with haha.
JCR had a slightly different style of gutter mounts when I built my first rack, they had a slight bend in them if you look close enough in the pics you can see it where they had a hole cut into the mount. When I started my new rack I ordered my gutter mounts not knowing they had a different style but they ended up working just the same. The new mounts they have are completely flat to work with the rack products they offer now.
I liked the 48" width because it caused my mounts to have a slight canter to them instead of being straight up and down. and to me it looked better... more streamlined. To get my positioning and fitment I actually left my factory rack rails on, laid the rack I made on top of them and it sorta wrapped around them snugly to the roof (you can see that in post #4 of the thread). I then put the mounts on where I wanted them and tacked them on while on my roof using a couple welding coats to keep any spatter off my jeep.
After I tacked all the mounts good I took off the rack and finished welding all the mounts on top (making sure to flip flop to avoid warping) and then flipped the rack upside down to weld the inner part where the mounts connect to make sure I had a sold hold on the mounts.
