It's probably stronger than you think it is. Built right it will brace the unibody just fine, it's just a matter of being unsafe in wrecks, rollovers, ect because it will splinter.

Plenty of wood structures take a lot more stress than an XJ will put on it. And no, I'm not advocating using wood to fabricate by any means.

maybe if he was scooting around town but and higher speed turns or off road flexing of the suspension, I can see that stuff cracking or breaking. or at least tear the surrounding area of where the wood meets the body.
