Hey, sorry if this was covered prior. Did search but didn't find anything, so here goes....
I'm wondering if this 'Idea' will work and if anyone else did the same. Am thinking of mounting a CB on the Headliner/roof of the XJ, I would need to get long enough bolts to go from the roof through the headliner and then seal the holes so no leakes
Run the power and antenna lines ontop of headliner, and fill the gap between the roof and headlinner with washers or something similar. Here's a MS Paint mock up (sorry for the quality, my first try at it)
Thanks for any and all input!

magnet mount my friend!!! if you already have a stick you wish to use alot of guys make a mount to put it either on top of the front fender, or a bracket that comes out next to the tail light housing.
He is talking about the radio, not the antenna. I would not drill through the roof. There are a ton of places to mount them without drilling through the roof, IMHO. I have mine where the visors attach to the center of the interior roof. I'm 6'5", and never used the visors, so I pulled them out. You could keep them in there, but they may require some modifications to clear the radio.
Just kidding. Depending on the weight/size, perhaps you could try some sort of bracket (check your local home despotism or Lowe'st service store) into the space between your sunshields? Silicon would be your friend.
Yeah ive seen it done on here before, basically a metal bar between the sunvisors then attach your radio bracket to that. you could still run the wires into the headlier but no holes int he roof that way.

Duct Tape is ALWAYS an option!
I was looking at the 34.99 Wally world CB (Cobra Mini?) So not too big, and I'll have to look at that bar between the visor deal...hhhmmmm

Exactly what I did. A piece of aluminium (1/8 think I think) then drill mount holes for the CB and holes for the visor mount to go through. I then I run the antenna cable in the headliner out the back between the hatch. I have a three magnet mount with a spring then the antenna and have no issues at all (did not originally have the spring but after the beating the antenna took and a few times flipping the mount someone suggested the spring - great off-road setup now).

i have a big heavy cobra 25 ltd nightwatch on my headliner, its literally mounted to my headliner, not the roof. The way i did it is i put a 1ft long 3" wide, i think 1/8th inch thick strip of plastic between the headliner and roof, then used pop rivets to attatch the mount for the cb to it, headliner does not sag AT all, looks real clean, and ive had it there for a few monthes now. Ill put a ms paint diagram on here in a minute, gotta make it haha

Theres 2 holes between your visors that the overhead console screws into. It may different on the older xjs but on the newer ones whether you have an overhead console or not the holes are still there. I just screwed mine into those holes, I dont have a headliner so it was pretty easy but it still shouldnt be hard.

Onetype is right thats where i put mine and i have a 90 xj, except with mine i just used double sided tape to put the mic up on the ceiling so it would stay out of my rear view mirror.
