i did both on mine, used 1/4 plate and 4 3/8 grade 8 bolts with SAE washers and hardened nuts per plate. Inside plates are slighty larger than the outside plates to reduce the "shear factor" to the sandwiched roof. oh, and i cut arount the headliner.
