every pontiac that i've known has nickel and dimed people to death. it seems like nothing expensive breaks down, but something always does. window regulators, tracks, door handles, latches and levers, speedometer, odometer, relays, every piece of plastic. now meticulously maintained, they are a great vehicle to rent, because their ride quality is great, but their v6-s are usually underpowered for the size of the car, and most of them use oil even when new. a dealership told my buddy that his 07 (i think) bonneville using 2qts between oil changes (4k mi) was well within the specs. that's ridiculous.
as i said, i love their ride quality, but i've seen as many, if not more pontiacs break down as intrepids and stratuses.

among all of the vehicles that i drove, mercury milan was by far the second best to the passat. some of the qualities actually made it better than the passat, but that turbo passat WILL ROOOOLLLL buddy.

Well, I'm just saying that of my experience with them (which is a lot by the way) they are nothing like what you are describing. People always seem to make things sound worse than what they are (a pet peeve of mine) and always stretch things out. And what is even worse is when people knock things they have no experience with or facts to prove their point (not saying you are). All I know is that for my personal preference, gm cars are the way to go. NOT a fan of ford's bull ****, and chrysler has some bad ones too.

 

nah dude, didn't own too many. other people's experiences were always enough for me to stay away from them. i just always happened to be the backyard mechanic that the came crying to when things happened. buddy's whole family had nothing but grand ams, prix, bonnevilles and i think he had a montana at some point. they came to me for most every repair except the oil change. and it never was a part that cost more than a 100 bucks.
the only one i've ever owned was 93 trans sport. i paid $700 for it in 04 just for hauling tools. in less than a year of driving it, most every button inside quit working, the tranny slipped, speedo quit, engine got louder and louder. i will honestly say that i never fixed any of those things because it just wasn't worth my time. the CEL never went off. but, it never left me on the side of the road. actually, a guy bought it from me for $900 and last i checked in 08, he was still driving it.
am i a gm fan? heck no. would i drive one for the right price? heck yeah. would i go out shopping for one? heck no.
i'm a mopar fan, but mopar has nothing left to be a fan of.
so, nowadays, i'll just drive what has a good balance of recalls and cheaper parts.
if it was up to me, i'd never own a vehicle that was made after 1999. because let's face it, whatever u save in newer car fuel economy, will most times go tri-fold in new sensors and stupid crap.
but, it's for the wife, so i had to broaden my horizon for luxury.
the newest pontiac that i've ever worked on was 2001 and if that wasn't a waste of metal... well, i'll just say that it was. opinions are like.... underwear. u gotta keep'em flexible around the waist.

 

if you want something that will be safe and last... look at German cars... VW, BMW, Mercedes

thanx. the CEL came on less than 10 miles after we bought it. intake manifold flap valve something something. was gonna take it back to the dealership, but it went off. other than that, i love the car.

 

my mom got a new turbo diesel jetta with manual transmission... and she loves it... and my dad just got a passat wagon both are black...vw are well built machines

 

well i had started thinking that i got a bad deal... the ac started going out after a week, but i took it back to the dealership (not VW) and they checked it, and hooked me up with a new compressor. they actually didn't have to do that, so i'm pretty happy. the wife loves it, and it hauls tail like no other.
