need a suggestion on car purchase
i will be getting a CAR for my wife in a few days. the budget is a little under 10k. don't feel like financing. need some suggestions. the criteria is midsize sedan and not disposable. mulling a lot of cars over, but could use some suggestions based on reliability and lack of.
it's funny how when u have the cash, no car actually looks that good.

You could probably find a reasonably late model Hyundai or Kia that still has lots left on the 100k warranty for that money.

I'd look into Accords & Camrys. Possibly Subaru Legacy's as well (for the AWD system). I have a 2004 Acura TL (basically an upscale accord) and LOVE it. It's decent sized, has a 270hp V6 and still gets 30mpg highway. *knock on wood* the only thing i've done to it since i've owned it is change the oil.

altima is not that bad, but 2000-2004 accords have serious transmission issues. it appears they come out randomly and usually cost about 3k to replace.
i'd never drive a pontiac. most everybody i know that has had one spent a small fortune on it one benjamin at a time.
btw, that altima is barely worth 7k.
but thanks for suggestions. i mainly wanna get an idea on what holds up these days.
kia seems to have picked up quite a bit in the last 2-3 years.

I was just showing you some reliable vehicles. Didn't really even pay attention too much to the prices and what would have been fair. I don't know what kind of people you know, but pontiacs can be some of the most reliable cars out there. They have a series of motors that are all pretty much the same thing. 2.9, 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6, 3.8, 3.9, 4.2, and I'm probably missing one or two. They all are pretty much the same thing. If you treat it right, they could last well over 200k without any major repairs other than an intake gasket (which really isn't considered a major repair).

but also, the intake gasket failure on the pontiacs can cost you a motor. i've seen it happen once already. the main thing i don't like about pontiacs is all of the accessories braking non stop.

Well ya, it will eventually cause failure. It's not that hard to take a flashlight and check to see if its leaking every now and then. I really think you have the wrong insight on pontiacs. I'm not real sure what your talking about when it comes to the "accesories".

i used to hate v-dubs but now i will never own a different kind of "car"
