Where the heck are the Flex Plates om a ZJ

Default Where the heck are the Flex Plates om a ZJ

Hi all,

i have a ZJ 98 orvis 4.0 and im pretty sure that i have either loose or cracked flex plates. but i cant find the damn things to check.

i took off the inspection cover but all i can see is the flywheel. am i looking in the wrong place?

ahhh, well i feel a little dumb now. but i could only see a few nuts, and they didnt look loose.

how many nuts should be on it?

4 flywheels usualy crack around the crank shaft bolts

there are 4 nuts on the outside and a few inside, the inside ones are the problem if they are loose, or the plate cracked.

FYI...
Manual Tranny = Flywheel

Automatic Tranny = Flexplate


And...

In order to properly check for cracks in the flexplate you need to remove the tranny and torque converter. The area where they are prone to cracking is not visible without doing so.
