Weird steering problem. NEED HELP

Default Weird steering problem. NEED HELP

Im having a problem with my 97 jeep grand cherokee. My steering is messed up ,like when i go stright its awesome but whem i turn and give it the gas it feels like the 4x4 is on but i know its not it feels like it bumps my steering and goes bumps and gose over and over till the tires are stright the jeeps milage is 240,000 and i put steering stabilizer and all shocks. what should i check?

There's your problem. The viscous coupler is the cause of your goofy steering.

In the transfercase. It would be more cost effective to swap it out for a NP231 part time case.

Check the u joints in the front axle shafts for signs of binding.

Okay, so you've got the 242. My 97 ZJ had the same symptoms and it was the hub u-joints. I think they cost me about $8 each and about 8 manhours to change them, although I'm old and slow. The hardest part was getting the hub bearings off. The bolts were a bear to break loose and the hubs were rusted into the spindle carriers. Be sure to grease them good before putting them together. Don't rely on the grease they come with. It isn't enough to last.
