Hello, I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.2 v8. When taking off from a stop sometime it will take off in first and Sometimes 2 gear . Was wondering if anyone has had similar issues with there's or any info on how to fix it. Thanks Scott

Can you better describe the problem? I don't understand what you mean that it will take off in first and sometimes in 2nd gear.

Ok if I stop at a stop sign it doesn’t want to take off in first, it wants to take off in second. But the other times it will take off in first, it’s very intermittent. Trans fluid is good Thanks Scott

Welcome to the forum.

Follow the diagnostic steps in the FSM for identifying potential sources for the problem in the 44RE transmission.

Get a set of pressure gauges to aid in the diagnostic steps.

I'm not trying to be obnoxious, but did you check the fluid level in NEUTRAL?

It should say that on the dipstick. It makes a difference of about 1 quart and that's enough to make the trans do weird things.
