I have a 01 WJ with a likely bad lock up converter (Need to do more diagnostics) and I have a low miles 99 Wj with a blown engine but good trans. Just wondering if I could use the 99 in the 01 if it came to the point of pulling the trans.

AS long as they are both 4.0s or 4.7s, yes they are the same. The 4.0 and the 4.7 use different transmissions. HOWEVER, my 2000 WJ 4.0 hasn't had a working lock-up in 5 years! It only reduces engine rpm by about 200 at speed so I don't see the point of replacing it. It sets a P0740 code every 250 miles after resetting it, so I just clear the code and wait for the monitors to clear before getting it inspected.

Yeah, both 4.0
I know I can get passed the inspection I just thought since I'm scrapping the 99WJ I'd take the opportunity but I am a bit backed up with other needed repairs so maybe I'll pull the trans but leave it on the side until further degradation.

If they are both 242 Selectrac transfer cases, save it too. Even if you don't use it, you'll be able to sell it one day. If it were mine and I had a place to store it, I'd keep the whole jeep. Then again, I intend to get as much out of mine as I can rather than buy something newer. This one I can at least fix myself. The newer they get, the more complicated they get.
Word of warning! Take the t/case off before you pull the trans. It's much easier to handle that way.
