Check engine light on no codes
I have a 2000 grand cherokee laredo 4.0l. The check engine light is on but there are no codes showing up, I have use multiple scan tools. If I hit erase codes the light goes off till the vehicle is shut down and on next start up its back on. I live in upstate ny and need to get an inspection done but the light being on will fail. I have tried to reset the ECM multiple time with no luck.

Beats the hell out of me, and I own one! Are there any codes pending when you scan it? Have you tried a DRB scan tool? What's the monitor status? A good mechanic with a DRB scan tool should be able to figure it out. That's all I've got. Good luck.
Of course, there's always a dealer with a $100 diagnostic fee!

Yes I've checked monitors there are 2 showing and nothing pending I took it to a shop and he put his scanner on and same thing. If I clear the light it stays off till I shut the jeep off and it come back on when I start it

Which monitors are incomplete? Shop with the DBR scan tool should be able to get further. Kind of sounds like maybe and only maybe, either a connection problem to the PCM or the PCM itself.
