Check engine light flashes 12 times and check gages light on
Hello everyone. My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo did not want to start this morning. It doesn't turn over at all but everything powers on. The check engine light flashes 12 times and the check gages light comes on. Any thoughts? The only thing that's been done recently is that the thermostat was changed out and the oil was changed a few days ago. It ran fine since the change-out with no indications of a problem and then just now, zero response from the Jeep other than the lights. Any one have any thoughts?

It is completely dead. No noises from the starter at all but I'm fairly sure it's not a bad battery as the radio/lights work fine. One other thing I should add about the thermostat; the parts store sold me a 'cooler' thermostat, meaning it wasn't a factory one. Could this have caused the issues I'm now experiencing??

Several things come to mind...
Maybe a problem with the ignition switch, I've had one brake the tab off for the start position before.
Could be a problem with the neutral safety switch.
Could be a dead starter.
Could maybe be a wiring issue.
Based on your description it doesn't sound like the battery is an issue but you might want to make sure the terminals are tight and corrosion free.
You could try bumping the starter with a remote switch, if it cranks the engine then you at least know the starter itself works and the problem lies elsewhere.
